The recent deposit at the UK Data Service of the British Business Census of
Entrepreneurs (BBCE) gives ready access to manuscript employers’ census returns of their employee numbers to the 1851/61/71/81 censuses, using the I-CeM digital census records (see also ). This session showcases the variety of research already being facilitated by the BBCE, some of the enhancements of the data that might be made, and what this means for interpreting economic changes in the 1851-81 period.
